Our Story
Laulima Farm is a 13-acre family farm in Kipahulu Valley surrounded by lush green mountainsides. Laulima got started in 1996 and has been farmed using organic practices since the beginning. We grow our wide variety of tropical produce in an agroforestry system, meaning that walking around the farm, it looks more like a forest (or botanical garden!) than what you may think of as a farm—large overstory trees like avocados protect our smaller trees such as cacao that prefer shade. In between those, find shrubs of hot peppers for our hot sauce and root crops of ginger and turmeric, all tucked in together with our nitrogen-fixing ground cover of perennial peanut.
The farm always has an amazing group of people to work on the land. We have orchards with hundreds of varieties of tropical fruits including coffee, cacao (chocolate), avocado, papaya, banana, durian, longan, jackfruit, zapotes, and citrus. We also have tropical field crops like pineapple, dragonfruit and popcorn (don’t miss a fresh popped bag at our stand) to name a few.
All harvesting and processing is done by hand. This ensures high quality from the beginning to the end. We are committed to honoring food as the sacred thing that it is and taking care of the land as best we know how.
